The first thought that popped into my mind when I saw the challenge for this week was the song “How Great Thou Art.” My soul soars in adoration when I hear the song. It uplifts me and makes me want to praise my great and awesome God. The words make me realize there is nothing or anyone great if God is left. True greatness comes from God. God is truly great!
Rev. Carl Boberg was inspired to pen the words to that great song after he had walked two miles in a thunderstorm, after a church service. Perhaps, it was when he listened to the thunder roll or looked up at the stars after the storm had passed that the awesomeness of God touched his soul. The song may have been first published in 1886, but our GREAT God is the same today, yesterday, and forever. (Hebrews 13:8 KJV)
“O Lord my God! When I in awesome wonder
Consider all the worlds Thy hands have made,
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder,
Thy power throughout the universe displayed:
The song says “consider all the worlds Thy hands have made.” According to Webster’s dictionary, “consider” means to study and examine. The dictionary says that after careful deliberation; believe. Romans 1:19, 20 (KJV) tells us that we can clearly see God’s hand in creation. Unfortunately, many don’t believe the truth and exchange it for a lie. How can a person look at a beautiful sunset and not see the handiwork of God? How can a person see the sun come up day after day and not know of the faithfulness of God? The list could go on and on. The order of the universe displays His power. Things didn’t JUST HAPPEN, they were PLANNED!
And when I think that God, His Son not sparing,
Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in;
That on the cross, my burden gladly bearing,
He bled and died to take away my sin;
I can understand when he says, “I scarce can take it in;” I stand amazed as I realize that he was willing that His son should die for one such as me and you. That He sent His son for the UNGODLY, Romans 5:6 (KJV) and not for the righteous. Not only was He willing, but He did it gladly! Oh, the wonder of it all. That He would bury my sin in the deepest sea and will remember it no more. The awesomeness of His love is overwhelming.
When Christ shall come with shout of acclamation
And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart!
Then I shall bow in humble adoration,
And there proclaim, my God, how great Thou art!
I don’t know how you feel, but when I think of my saviour coming it fills my heart with joy, right now. Yes, waiting to see His face, but yet realizing who He is and bowing humbly before Him. He is awesome!!
HOW GREAT THOU ART! I can catch just a glimpse of why the four living creatures in Rev. 4:8 cry “Holy, holy, holy” day and night. (KJV)
