As the Holy Spirit led me in prayer, He showed me what to write about for this week’s challenge.
In the beginning, when God created the heavens and the earth everything He made was good. By the six day He looked at all He’d made and deemed it “very good.” Genesis 1:31 “God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning-the sixth day.”
The study of Genesis 1:1 through 2:2 provide us with a front row seat at the glorious creation of the heavens and this place we call home. We have to be impressed with His marvelous creative powers.
When you observe the condition of our world today, it’s hard to imagine its former glory, but we know it to be true because everything that was made came out of God’s essence and He is good.
God gave man dominion of this world and charged him with its care.
We know that sin entered the world and sullied everything, but the redemptive work of Jesus Christ restored dominion back to man.
As time marches on and in the name of progress, our earth has taken a tremendous ravaging by the very ones who are responsible for it’s care. Many animals have been ousted from their homes and habitats have been destroyed so that mankind can live better lives.
Has mankind forgotten God’s dominion mandate? Could an ignorance of God’s purpose for this earth and mankind’s role in caring for it cause its misuse and degradation? Could this lack of knowledge also be responsible for the many dead animals being killed in staggering numbers on highways and streets around the world?
I can testify to seeing dead opossums, raccoons, squirrels and I even saw a deer lying dead on a highway near my home. Do the strip malls on the South and North sides of the street now stand where the deer’s home used to be?
As mankind continues to progress and advance I can’t help but see the obvious selfishness of man and the disrespect of that which God created.
Our Instant Gratification society thrives on bigger, better and faster and God’s creation is dwindling and being depleted of all its resources. People live in large luxurious homes, work in the world tallest buildings, and shop at the biggest and popular malls, all at the expense of that which God spoke into being and deemed good. Good… Good. Everything God made was good.
What happened to the reverence for that which God placed in our care? Is there hope our world?
Oh yes, my dear brethren. Just as the soul of every believer longs for the return of our Lord and Savior, oh how the earth does too.
The misuse of mankind will be expunged and the earth will be made new and glorious again. Under Jesus’ superb reign, the earth and heavens alike will be restored to their former glory.
Romans 8:19-21 “19 The created world itself can hardly wait for what's coming next. 20 Everything in creation is being more or less held back. God reins it in 21 until both creation and all the creatures are ready and can be released at the same moment into the glorious times ahead. Meanwhile, the joyful anticipation deepens. (MSG)
I believe Holy Spirit wanted me to write about this for two reasons, one, to remind us of God’s mandate to have dominion over this earth and care for it and not be given to the selfishness that plagues the hearts of many. Two, to remind us that God’s eternal purposes include the restoration of that which He called good.
