No one answers.
“Please, I beg you help me.”
People on the sidewalk pass without a glance.
“I’m dying. Please, won’t someone stop and save me.” The cry became an agonizing scream.
Not one person gave the plea a second of consideration.
“I can’t take it anymore. I can’t, I can’t. Please someone, anyone, please.”
Eventually this poor soul will retreat back to the dark corners from where it ventured in search of liberation.
The chances of this unfortunate soul dying alone in misery and sin then eventually thrust into eternal damnation is far, far too great.
And it is far too common.
The next time you are in a public place, a mall, at school, at work or walking down a crowded sidewalk take a quick look around.
How many lost, miserable souls, dying in their sins, are silently crying out from the spiritual realm for help and salvation?
Think about this- if a stranger stopped you on a street corner and handed you a million dollars cash would you be happy? Maybe just a tiny bit ecstatic?
Hey, I would!
Suppose this same man told you to go and tell everyone you know and anyone you meet that if they will come to that very same corner and shake his hand he would do exactly the same for them with no strings attached. He would do this for as many as would come to him with no limit.
Just to prove he could carry out what he promised he had notarized documents stating he was not only perfectly sane but also the wealthiest man in the world.
Would you tell anyone?
I venture to say, like me, you would first contact all your relatives and friends then after they received their rewards you would announce it to everyone you happened to encounter.
How much greater than any treasure that comes from this earth is the gift Christ has given every Christian?
The word tells us that the value of one soul is worth all the wealth of this world.
I realize that while we reside in our physical bodies we are limited in direct perceptions of the spiritual realm, but with the Holy Spirit residing in our hearts we can be sensitive to certain spiritual issues.
Especially those the Holy Spirit intends for us at a particular point in time.
A short time ago my wife and I were dining at a local restaurant when my attention was drawn to four young men seated at a table close to ours.
Unable to ignore their conversation with the boisterous waitress, it became obvious they were brothers and none spoke English very well.
The man that appeared to be the eldest seem to be feeling ill or else carried a heavy burden on his mind and/or his heart.
I felt a sensitivity to this fact and was moved to approach them and ask if they wound be offended if I prayed for them.
Guess what?
I am ashamed to admit that I did not follow what I believe was the leading of the Holy Spirit.
I want to believe that the next time, and from then on, I will not let another opportunity like this to pass by without acting on it, but I cannot be certain.
Do I intend to quit my job and carry a sign through the streets screaming “The end is coming”?
No.
Although with the help of the Holy Spirit, I plan to exercise my boldness and obedience.
So please, help me God I pray.
