This just isn't working!
I've prayed and I've prayed--
But there's nothing to indicate change...
They are just as stubborn and willful,
As they were before I began this refrain!
So I tell them they have to do better—
I tell them to "shape up, or else!"
I remind them over and over,
But nothing at all seems to help.
Can't they see they are driving me crazy?
Can't they see they are making me sick?
I've pleaded, I've whined and I've cried,
"Is cooperation too much to ask?"
Still they won’t toe that line I have drawn--
No matter how I rant or I rave!
Now let's talk about this, Lord--
Why are they so out of control?
Child,
Just who's out of control in this picture?
Hmm, I wonder if you have lost sight
Of whose control you should be under?
--And as you tear your hair out in frustration,
Have you spent time praying for yourself?
Is your attitude in line with my will?
I wait and I wait, but I see little change
As you whine, and you cry and you beg...
I’ve tried to work on their problems,
But you seem to think that's your job.
So I've let you do it alone to your ruin,
And look at the blame I get in return!
Now let's talk about this, Child--
Why aren't you in my control?
Lord,
I'm beginning to grasp what you're saying...
And it's not very pleasant to hear:
You really don't need my help or my fretting?
You are quite capable to do it yourself?
Oh! Of course you can do it alone...
You're a very big God and I'm very small,
With no power but what you supply...
So I've got to let go of all my control
And let you work your will in your way.
--And while I wait for your perfect timing,
I should wait with the patience you give...
Never taking control; never fearing,
As your power makes the way clear.
Now I see this path offers benefits:
What peace to rest in your power!
--What freedom to allow your control!
