Yes, they certainly were a motley lot.
Fishermen, a tax collector, and several other sorts. They certainly wouldn’t have had much to do with each other normally.
However, when Jesus came along He called each one to join with Him.
And what a difference that made to them!
In fact, three years later, it made a world of difference.
In the meantime, each one of them had the privilege of hearing Jesus speak to crowds, to small groups of people and sometimes to themselves individually.
They saw him do many miracles, from fairly simple healings, even to raising people from death.
Three of them actually saw Jesus transfigured on the mountain.
Understandably, some of the disciples had difficulty in believing Him.
Eventually the crunch came.
The One they professed to believe in and love was dead.
Crucified.
Now what?
Back to disconnection for ever?
No way!
Jesus, the One who called them together in the first place, ascended back to Heaven and sent the Holy Spirit to them to transform them.
We read in Acts chapter 2: “When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.”
“With one accord!”
Now, a glorious and permanent togetherness.
Hallelujah!
