“Sure thing Boss!” Finally, a chance to sit in the Big Guy’s Barkalounger! This is going to be awesome, especially with the big screen monitoring system Gabriel installed last week!
He glided over to the overstuffed recliner and plopped right down, wiggling deep until he found a sweet spot. “Oh yeah. I could get used to this. Take your time Big Guy!” He yelled over his shoulder as he reached for the Universal Remote. “Let’s see what we have here… Hmm, I wonder what this button does?” Joe asked aloud, as he pressed the bright blue and gold button near the top.
On the monitor before him, the heavens parted and a deluge of rain poured across the globe. Lighting flashed. Thunder claps burst through the surround sound system and caused him to fumble the remote in trembling hands. He frantically searched for a button to counteract the storm he had inadvertently created.
“Everything alright in there Joseph?” God questioned in the distance.
“Nothing to worry about here! Everything’s fine sir!” Joe’s heart beat wildly as he continued examining the device in hopes of locating the correct keys.
At last, he found the stop button and breathed a sigh of relief. Then he noticed the View Earth button and selected the Australia channel. He was rather found of watching those peculiar creatures called kangaroos. The platypus was a creature that Joe didn’t understand, but he always laughed at the site of them anyway.
“Hmm, things seem to be in order here. Let’s try Hawaii.” He flipped the channel and was staring at resorts full of tourists on holiday. “That’s what they call a vacation? Drinks with little umbrellas and kids running around screaming? Can’t wait till they get up here and see how to really live it up!”
Knock, knock, knock.
“Oh excuse me. Where is He?”
“Little Creator’s room. Bad Thai food. Watcha got there Tom?” Joe spun the Barkalounger to face Thomas.
“Uh, it’s today’s prayer requests. I’ll come back later.”
“Give ‘em here. It’s ok. Mr. J. asked me to hold down the fort till he got back.” Joe extended his hand expectantly.
“You know He doesn’t like you to call Him that.” Tom reminded Joe of the weasels found down on Earth, same beady little eyes. “I don’t know. I guess if He left you in charge--” Joe snatched the list from Tom’s hands before he could finish. Tom shook his head as he left the viewing chamber.
“Let’s see…‘Dear God, Please help me find my kitty. She’s been gone for two days and-’ Bor-ring. Next!” Joe scanned the list of requests. “Hmm. ‘God, I’ve done many bad things in my life, but You know I didn’t kill those boys. Please have the governor grant my stay of execution…’ Um, maybe I should start smaller.”
Joe continued to search the prayers: Parents looking for run aways, governmental leaders asking for wisdom, gang members crying out amidst their dark lives. Joe unrolled the scroll further; it seemed to grow by the second, as prayers continued to appear before his eyes.
“Whoa! This answering prayer stuff is enough to give a guy a headache!” Joe began carefully rolling the list back up. “Maybe we’ll just save these for Mr. J.”
“I told you not to call me that. It’s Jehovah or just God or Lord, anything but Mr. J.” God chided Joe as He returned.
“Sorry Big Guy!” Joe replied, nervously setting the scroll on the end table and jumping up out of the Barkalounger.
“Better scratch Big Guy too.” God looked crossways at Joseph as He took His seat in front of the monitor. Reaching for the remote, the scroll beside Him caught His eye. “What’s this?”
“Today’s prayer list and it sure is long! Can’t humans do anything for themselves?”
“No, they can’t. Problem is, few realize this until they’ve already made a mess of things. Some have to be at a point of devastation before they are ready to turn over control. That’s where I come in.”
“Well, I’m impressed sir. I don’t know how you do it!”
“That’s why I’m in charge. And Joseph. Next time I leave you alone in here, don’t touch the remote and stay out of my Barkalounger.”

Our God is an active God, though, so I doubt He has a lounge chair, and according to Scripture Jesus is seated at His right hand interceding for us. That aside, I did laugh!
