Sometimes it is silent, only words on a page
But you get the message clearly with rules that trap you like a cage.
In every stage of life, you encounter it in some form or another
Whether it’s conduct reports from a teacher or that scary look from your mother.
That principal you avoid as you hurry down the hall.
The coach you work so hard for when you want more time with the ball.
You can learn to obey it to avoid catastrophe,
Or you can fight it and end up an example for all to see.
Run a traffic light or go too fast in a slow school zone
You will find it very quickly as you bring your ticket home.
Disrespect your boss, bend the rules, or behave dishonestly
And you may be searching for a new job for your lack of integrity.
It is something that has stood the test of time. It will not go away.
It is a constant in our lives, each and every day.
Even if you are the coach, the parent, or the boss,
Be careful because even then, you still answer to the cross.
God created each of us in His image and placed leaders along the way
We may not always agree with them but should respect them and obey.
It is in place to guide you and give you boundaries in life
When you ignore it, you will suffer and bring trouble, harm, and strife.
Proverbs 11:14 says when there’s no guidance, a people falls,
But there is safety when there is an abundance of counselors over us all.
So, remember next time you are given instruction and it’s time to make a choice
Choose to obey the ultimate one in charge and listen for His voice.
