“Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, cursed is everyone that hangeth on a tree (Galatians 3:13). But when the fullness of the time was come, God sent forth his son, made of a woman, made under the law, To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons” (Galatians 4:4-5).
She had lost her way. Her mother did her best to bring her up the right way. Her mother was a single mother of five children. She was the eldest child in the family. She had two other sisters and two brothers that were younger than she. She was scared and frightened. She did not know what she was going to do. Her mom didn’t force religion on her. She was not required to go to church services on Sundays and Wednesdays. She had a little bit too much freedom. Her mom never talked to her about dating and the opposite sex. She learned about abstinence and sex at school. She was fifteen years old and was not baptized. Her mom never talked about Jesus, and how he is the way and the light. She had very little guidance at home. Her and her mom never sat down and just talked about their day. Her mother was there physically and financially, but there was no emotional or mental attachment.
She had already begun to sin against her body. She had her first intimate encounter with a man who was 23 years old. She had lost her virginity to him; a few months after turning fifteen. When it happened; she cried because it was not special and it was something she was pressured to do. She felt all alone. She had no one to confide in. Her closest friend, Christine, was a Christian. She couldn’t tell Christine, because Christine was still a virgin. Christine would not understand. Christine lives with both her parents. Her parents have been married for a long time. They take her to church nearly every Sunday for church and every Wednesday night for Bible class.
Justine felt as if no one loved her. Her mom never hugged or even kissed her. Her mom never asked about her grades, or even more importantly; how she was doing. She needed to be taught by someone. She had been to church twice with Christine. When she went; she really enjoyed herself and she could feel the power of God in that place.
She cried herself to sleep after the intimate encounter. Christine told her she was waiting until marriage before having sex. She told herself she would do the same. She promised herself to never again; give into peer pressure and to save what’s left of herself for marriage. She had gotten so depressed that she finally confided in Christine. Instead, of rejecting her, Christine offers Justine, to accept Jesus as her Lord and Savior. She told Christine that because her mom worked two jobs, she was rarely around and she had to babysit her younger brothers and sisters often. Christine told her that Jesus loves her no matter what sins she has committed in the past. She invited Justine to attend church services with her every Sunday and every Wednesday. This time Justine said yes. She felt as if no one really loved her and she was looking for love in all the wrong places.
That Sunday the pastor’s words touched Justine’s spirit. The pastor said, “You can come as you are to Christ. Christ accepts you just as you are. His arms are always open. Let him hold you. Let him heal you. Let him forgive you. Let him love you; for you have been redeemed by Christ’s blood. Christ loves you. When your mother and your father forsake you, he will take you up.”
Justine came down to the altar. The walk to the altar was a long one. She quietly sat down in a chair at the front of the church. The pastor gave her the right hand of fellowship. A beautiful lady wrote down her name and scheduled her to be baptized the following Sunday morning.
After that day, Justine was eager to learn as much as she could about God and Christ. As a new member, she received her first Bible from the church. From that day forth, she celebrated her redemption from sin, by the blood of Christ.
