My husband and I had just been wakened by the sound of a young man screaming “fire” out in the back yard.
He had jumped off the balcony from the master bedroom of his mom and dad’s townhouse - which, like ours, was in the middle of ten attached units in the complex. It was pitch black outside where he had fallen 18 feet to the ground, and was now hobbling around - yelling for people to get out. His parents perished in the blaze.
Hearing his screams, we quickly got out of bed to look through the window, where we saw the reflection of fire on the leaves of the trees behind us.
Making sure that my daughter and son were safely outside, I then ran to warn the occupants of the four units to my right, while my husband covered the five units on his left.
Soon after, the fire engines and police arrived - checking to see if everyone from the townhouse units were accounted for. We said that even though most of us were outside, the only question we had was about the one unit alongside of us to the left – a unit that was located closer to the ongoing flames.
We had been calling and calling at this home, but no one had answered, and because their truck was not in its usual place in the driveway, we thought maybe our neighbours were away. A few minutes later however, a policeman brought them out to safety - explaining that they were too deep in sleep to hear any commotion.
Because the fire had so quickly engulfed the five units where my husband had warned its occupants to get out - my son urged us to pray.
We assured him that everyone other than the two who had perished, was now out safely, and that we had insurance in case a disaster like this happened. We would let nature take its course.
But my son insisted, “No, Dad, we have to pray.”
So in the midst of all the action by firefighters, police, and hydro personnel, my husband and son stood on the street – where they clasped hands, bowed their heads in prayer - and asked God for supernatural protection.
As the fire continued to burn up our sleepy neighbour’s roof heading towards ours – we noticed that it suddenly stopped its forward momentum, and began to shoot straight up into the air at a 90 degree angle. The fire did not move one inch further over onto our roof. When thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned. Isaiah 43:2 (KJV)
Moreover, when the Fire Marshall finally let us go back into our unit later that day to get some belongings - we were astounded to realize that our home smelled fresh and clean - absolutely nothing like the choking acrid smell from the burned structures that was hanging in the air right outside our front door. They didn’t even smell of smoke!” Daniel 3:27 (NLT)
They stood on the street - standing on the promises of God.

Your entry ended with a good example of the account in Daniel. Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego coming out of the fiery furnace not smelling of smoke, and may have been a great set of scriptures to weave into your story.
