Maybe you have a physical ailment, or maybe it’s emotional healing from past or present hurts that you are asking God for – sometimes crying out for?
I have been asking God for five years for physical healing from nerve and muscle pain in my back. A while ago I was really struggling – the pain was getting to me. I was finding it hard to focus on anything. I felt anxious and low, my mind was preoccupied with the pain and the fact that God seemingly was not answering my plea for healing was frustrating and difficult to understand.
I felt confused. I know He is my Heavenly Father to whom all power belongs. I know He can heal – one word from His mouth, that’s all it takes. I’ve seen Him heal others. I declared that He is the God who created the world by His powerful Word. He can do anything. Nothing is impossible for Him. Yet still the healing didn’t come.
So, I pleaded again, also asking for wisdom to know if there was anything more I could do, was I missing something? Was there another specialist, another procedure, another physio I should try?
I questioned Him,
‘Surely Lord, I could be so much more effective in serving You without this pain? It can’t be Your will for me to live like this? What a bad witness I am to an unbelieving husband!’
My thoughts went around in my mind. I needed help now!! I sat there, confused and weary, coming to the end of myself I asked my Father,
‘What should I do next?’
And then as I quietened down my answer came, I clearly heard Him whisper the words,
‘Worship Me’
What! This was His answer? God was asking me to worship Him – this was my way forward? Two words I did not want to hear. But, as I pondered on what He had said, I knew deep in my spirit that this was God’s ‘now’ word for me. His answer to my heart’s cry.
So, I told Him I would, I started to worship, through word and song. I worshipped through the pain, often through tears, at other times with a real sense of praise in my heart.
And I have continued to worship, most of the time, even though there has been no physical healing. But I have come to realise deep down, my worship to Him through pain is very precious to Him.
As I write today my back is still not healed, but now, months later I feel at peace about it. My Heavenly Father knows – He knows what I need and what is best for me, and somewhere in the darkest place, in the depth of pain, to worship and trust Him is more powerful than any physical healing – the sacrifice of praise so pleases our King.
I live with Hope. I know one day, if not in this life, then in Eternity I will be healed, totally, completely. So, for now I will keep on worshiping Him. I will not let my lack of understanding of His ways, nor my confusion stop me from declaring His Sovereignty over my life and His loving care for me.
So, if you too are praying for healing, keep on asking, but also why don’t you try speaking out your praises to Him, singing a song to Him, even in your pain, whatever that may be? Feel His smile, experience His comfort, and know the power of His Presence as you bring a sacrifice of praise to Him. You may not feel like doing this, but remember whatever our circumstances, He is and always will be so worthy of our praise.
Hebrews 13:15
Through Jesus, therefore let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise – the fruit of lips that openly profess his name

However, the message clearly comes through for the intended target market. Your closing Scripture is spot on. Keep writing.
When confused, is good to turn our focus on Him, away from ourselves.
