As a Christian, I am fully committed to following the example of Godly living that Christ left behind for us believers. I am truly in love with the Lord Jesus, not just because he sacrificed his life for my sins, but because he is a true friend. When I have no one to turn to, for help, God is there for me through my fellowship with Christ. There are many instances in the bible where his chosen leaders and chosen people express their unfailing love and devotion to the Lord. From Daniel to David, his chosen leaders were fully committed to God. If we be fully committed to God, then he will be fully committed and loyal to us. In this message, I will give examples of what it means to be fully committed to God and to his purpose for us here on Earth. My first example of unfailing devotion is of the three wise men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego found in Daniel chapter three. In Daniel chapter 3, King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon made an image of gold that he had set up and he wanted all the rulers of the provinces and all the peoples of the land to bow down and worship the golden image at the sound of all kinds of music. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego; the three wise men of the Lord God, refused to bow down and worship the golden image during the dedication ceremony. They did not participate in the dedication ceremony of the golden image. King Nebuchadnezzar, made a decree that who falleth not down and worshippeth; the golden image should be cast into the midst of a burning fiery furnace (Daniel 3:11). Even in the threat of death the three wise men: Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego refused to worship the idol gods of the King. If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O King (Daniel 3:17). But if not, be it known unto thee O King, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up (Daniel 3:18). And God honored the three wise men’s loyalty and devotion to him by delivering them, as they had said, from the burning fiery furnace (Daniel 3: 26).
The next instance of unfailing loyalty and devotion was exhibited by Daniel under the reign of King Darius, King of Babylon. The king had signed a decree brought to him by the presidents, governors, princes, counselors, and captains of the Kingdom of Babylon. The decree stated that whosoever shall ask a petition (or prayer to) any God or man for thirty days, except of the King, he shall be cast into the den of lions (Daniel 6:7). Daniel refused to pray to King Darius. Daniel instead with his windows open toward Jerusalem, kneeled down upon his knees three times a day and prayed and gave thanks to our God Jehovah as he normally did (Daniel 6:10). The men that had brought the decree to the King assembled against Daniel and told King Darius that Daniel was still praying to the Hebrew God (Daniel 6:11-16). As a result the King commanded Daniel to be cast into the den of lions. God delivered Daniel from the lions’ den (Daniel 6: 11-23). My God hath sent his angel and hath shut the lions’ mouths that that they have not hurt me, said Daniel (Daniel 6:22). Daniel was loyal and devoted to God even in the face of death just like the three wise men.
Another example of unfailing loyalty and devotion to God is that of Ruth, the Moabitess. Ruth was extremely loyal unto her mother-in-law Naomi. She refused to go back to her native land after her husband; one of Naomi’s sons had died. She vowed to stay with and follow Naomi, even if it meant death for the both of them. And Ruth said, Intreat me not to leave thee, or return from following after thee, for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodges, thy people should be my people, and thy God my God (Ruth 1:16). Where thou diest; I will die, and there will I be buried (Ruth 1:17). As result of Ruth’s devotion to God and Naomi, God took Ruth from gleaning in the fields, to living a wealthy life, as Boaz’s wife.
