When my uncle Steve came to visit, it was always exciting for my brother, sister, and me. He took us everywhere, and of course, he was still attempting to introducing us to new experiences in food. I never wanted to try anything new; if it wasn't hot dogs hamburgers or a ham and cheese grinder with my all-time favorite apple pie, I just wasn't interested. I only wanted what was in my comfort zone. Oh, another staple food in my diet was a Peanut butter and Jelly sandwich on Silvecup bread.
Uncle Steve was still a single man, and my parents were always asking him when he was going to settle down and have a family of his own. I couldn't understand why, but I always thought of them as badgering him. He always responded kindly and said in the Father's timing, and my Lord and God will always provide my need; until then, I will continue to minister to others. He shared that his heart breaks when he sees so many folks on their way to Hell. I once asked him why? He pulled me aside and gently took the time to share with me that many people don't know; they don't recognize that Hell is a real place (Luke 16:19-31).
My Uncle Steve was also fondly known as " Council," especially to friends and family. He gave me such alluring memories, and he was larger than life to me. He attempted to turn almost every situation into a teachable moment, and that's one of the things that I took out of his life's playbook.
It was evident to me that he sincerely loved our family when he was away traveling on tour; I heard that he always stayed in touch. Someone in the family knew how to contact him in case of an emergency.
To this day, when I think of my Uncle Council, "The Lord's Prayer " hastens into my mind. I always loved it when he sang it. You see, during this period in my life, he was the only constant family adult who spoke about God's love for us. At this junction in my life, I started asking questions about God more and more often, but my parents didn't have answers. There seemed to be a parade of folks stopping by our house talking junk as far as I was concerned, one day I walked into the kitchen and some woman was reading tea leaves, another time a couple, Jevohove Witnesses we're sitting at the kitchen table sharing. Nothing like what my uncle Council shared with me, he shared God's Love and redemption. Eventually, our folks sent us to parochial School in Greenwich, Ct. Well, I attended Catholic school from grammar school to my freshman year in High School. My uncle's influences have lasted my whole life. He has passed on now, and he was only eighteen years my senior. He passed on February 5th, 2016, at the age of 86, now when I think of the word " Famous," he comes to my mind.
He always sent loving cards to each family member on particularly special days in our lives and on holidays, as well and a personal telephone call from him. Oh, I am attempting to do the same. I have taken it to the next level; I make contact with all in my sphere of influence regularly. I hear back from folks that I met once or twice way back in the year 2000, and it pleases me so much opening up those communication avenues once again. Don't forget that I am a Man Of Prayer; this is how God uses me in the Body of Christ. I desire to touch more hearts, Saved, and unsaved.
I have shared an accurate accounting.
