I’m getting married in the fall.
Paul he is so handsome
Can’t wait for us to dance some
Get me to the church on time.”
Kay sat on the edge of her bed singing her favorite song from My Fair Lady. Of course she changed the words to meet her present situation. She found the tune quite catchy.
She held her left hand up and admired the solitaire diamond Paul placed on her finger last night. He had taken her to her favorite restaurant Soft music played as they ate their surf and turf dinner. Paul had ordered a special dessert for them. Her favorite, Strawberry Cheesecake with whipped cream. As they were finishing their cake, Paul reached into his pocket and brought out a small, beautiful, gold wrapped gift. He gave it to Kay.
“What’s this for?” Kay asked.
“Just open it and you’ll see.”
When the gift was opened, Paul reached across the table, took her hand, and said, “Kay, I love you. Will you marry me.”
Kay had dreamt of this day forever. “Yes” she whispered.
It wasn’t a huge diamond, but it was perfect because Paul was perfect.
She would call her best friend Lacy, but first she had to get a shower, then off to work.
Lacy would be excited for her. She was going to ask her to be her maid-of-honor.
They had lots of planning to do. Showers to attend. A bachelorette party to plan.
But, the phone call would have to wait.
Right now, she had to think about getting ready for the day. Before she grabbed a towel and her clothes, she took off her engagement ring and laid it in the middle of her end-table. She then went into the bathroom for a warm shower.
Shower finished, she towel dried, dressed, did her make-up, combed her hair - then stood back admiring what she saw in the mirror. Paul was one lucky guy she mused.
She went to the end-table to get her diamond and it was gone!
Disappeared!
Vanished!
Simply put, it was not where she left it.
“That’s odd” thought Kay before she went into a total panic.
What happened to her ring? No one came into her room. It wouldn’t just up and walk away. She got down on her hands and knees and scoured the floor, looking under the bed, around the end-table. She took the covers off her bed and gently shook them.
No engagement ring magically appeared.
Not knowing what else to do, she sat on the edge of her bed and cried.
And cried.
What was she going to do? What would she tell Paul?
When all else fails, pray, and that is exactly what Kay did. “Father, I don’t know what happened to my ring, but you know exactly where it is. Please help me find it. Amen.”
Knowing if she dawdled much longer, she would be late for work, Kay went to get her shoes, which were in the corner of the room. She slid her left foot into a navy shoe, her right foot sliding into the other shoe. Something didn’t feel right. What was in her shoe? She took the shoe off and shook out the contents. Into her hand fell one beautiful engagement ring.
“What?” She exclaimed.
“How did this get into my shoe?”
Without hesitation, she placed the ring back on her finger where it belonged and vowed to never take it off again.
Turning around she saw her cat Muffy sitting on top of her end-table, her bushy grey tail swishing back and forth. Muffy must have come into her room while she was in the shower, jumped up on her end-table and with one swish of her tail the ring flew into Kay’s shoe in the corner of the room.
“Thank you Jesus for finding my ring.”
Laughing, Kay picked up her cat, held her close and muttered, “Muffy, you should be in the NBA with a three-point shot like that. You are one odd cat. I’m just glad you didn’t decide to eat my ring for breakfast.”
Kay picked up her jacket and purse, Muffy still nestled in her arms, and headed for her car. As she walked through the house she began singing,
I’m getting married in September
I’m getting married in the fall
Muffys not invited
She gets too excited
Please get me to the church on time.
