My father is a Gideon. He distributes bibles. Years ago he and his camp president traveled out of town for a weekend seminar. He drove his car and parked it right in the parking lot outside the hotel. That evening after the first session the camp president reminded dad of something that was left in the car. The two of them went out to the car and found it gone. They questioned the security officers outside but got no answers that would help. The car had been stolen. The matter was reported to the police. That night dad phoned home to tell mum about the car. After the phone call mum gathered us to pray in the sitting room. It was the most interesting prayer session. In spite of the shock that the car had been stolen, we danced and praised God. I for one believed that the car would be found the next day.
When Sunday came, we saw a bus park outside the gate. Dad got off the bus with his bag and that was it. There was no news about the car. The police said they were looking into the matter. They had no leads. Later we heard that most stolen cars were never found. The thieves usually took them across the boarder and sold them in another country. It was impossible to get the car back.
How could God allow a car that Dad used for ministry be stolen? We could not understand. Dad had confessed belief that the car would be found. I had even stopped praying for the car to be found or for the thieves to be caught.
One Sunday after church, in the very town that the car had been stolen, my brothers walked to the shopping centre. The shopping centre was across the road from the church. In the parking lot one of my brothers noticed a Toyota Cressida. It was a different shade of blue and had tinted windshields. There was some marking on the car caught that had his attention. He called my other brother and between them took note of other distinct features. When they were satisfied they called the police. They later called Dad that the car had been found. This was a year and some months later. What had seemed impossible was only possible because of God.
