A typical day in the midst 1990’s. Our children are respectively 14, 12 and 8.
Both boys are having piano lessons, kick a soccer ball in their team, the oldest in ice-hockey, our girl is in ballet, piano wasn’t for her, which suits me just fine, mom’s taxi is always going somewhere. To pay for all this extra, I am cleaning homes, 13 in total every two weeks.
All of us sing in a worship team in the church, our oldest plays the bass guitar in his team, our youngest plays the piano in his team. My husband and I sing, our girl sings and dances in her team. We have Bible study Wednesday evening, which is every other week at our home and starts at 7 exactly. That night is the most hectic evening of the week, imagine having the house ready after a day of cleaning, cooking dinner, a shower for me, not necessarily in this order, typing this last comment makes me smile, yes humor is a must as well, to keep my sanity you know.
Praises be to God who teamed me up with a husband that always knows how to crack a joke at the right time. Part of my evening, after all are off to bed, are spend on making 5 lunches, that is if the kids have no sleepovers, then this number easily doubles. Washing and ironing their shirts, the kids go to private schools and wear uniforms.
Thank God for tape recorders and CD players, all my work is always done while listening to Ron Kenoli or Don Moen, Brian Doerksen, the Newsboys, there are a few more favorites. Two scriptures come to mind, Psalm 121;1and2,”I will lift up my eyes to the hills from where comes my help? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.”
Scripture also tells us that God inhabits in the praises of His people, tried to find the reference but couldn’t find it, I am very new at this and my hubby is not home to help me. In Psalm 145;18 it says this;” The Lord is near to all who call upon Him. To all who call upon Him in truth. I know praising the Lord and calling upon Him is what keeps me going, I am learning, and have learned, that He is my Rock, my Fortress, my Deliverer in Whom I do trust.
Year after year, what I described earlier, this is a typical day in my busy life, many unexpected things are thrown in as well, I am sure you all know what I mean with this, especially those that raise kids, have a job and so on.
Skip forward it is 2019, my life is still busy, our children are grown, we have 8 grandchildren, 3 turned 13 this year which made the number of teenagers 5 in total. Thank God no more lunches to prepare, that is not 5 just 1 for my hubby, sometimes I miss those busy days more than I care to admit. Driving mom’s taxi all over not so much. This grandma, which I am not called, I am oma, Dutch for grandma, still thrives on singing His praises, not a day goes by that I don’t need Him, I think at times I need Him more, after all I am not 35 anymore. This oma has also learned to sit at His feet, she learned that being busy isn’t what it is cracked up to be at all. God is in no hurry and this child is learning not to hurry so much either. To be busy is very different now, there truly is a time for every season under heaven. As Ecclesiastes:1,3 says; ”To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven.’ To God be the glory, now and forever, amen!
