Topic: IN-LAWS (07/11/19)
When we marry our spouse, we inherit their family, as well. We are not just married to him/her, but our in-laws, as well. As our knew relationships begin to unfold, with each family member, we begin to realize that some subjects are more sensitive than others. As time progresses, though, our new-found in-laws, begin to realize that welcoming us into the family is not such a bad idea, after all.

As new believers, we are inheriting new family members in our local church. Often times, because of the way the new in-law is dressed (colors, jewelry . . .), different values, beliefs, etc., take a while to adjust to. Some may never adjust, because of the “tunnel vision” of their faith.

We often times forget the compassion Jesus had for others. He gave us many scenarios, in His Word, on how to love and treat one another. The Lord doesn’t expect us to love one another, just in church, but 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. Sometimes our new family members, may say things that hurt us, but we must constantly remind ourselves who we are in Christ. That person may be hurting inside themselves. The best thing to do is to pray for that family member.

Once our new family has started to meld together, we begin to realize how valuable one another is to us; How each member has a specific talent, that causes us all to work like a well-oiled machine.

Becoming “one as He is one” was the heartfelt desire of Jesus. So, we need to pray for our in-laws, whether they are believers or not. Especially, if they have hurt us and have become distant from us. Reconciliation may not come right away, but remember it’s in God’s timing, not ours.

Upon Christs’ return, we will return with Him to Heaven, all our spiritual in-laws will finally be perfect and one with Him!

Is it your personal experience that it takes time for the in-laws to accept you into the family? This is not necessarily always the case - some families "click" long before the marriage.

You are quite correct in emphasizing the need to pray for each other; this is especially so in the family situation. Keep up the good writing.

I've never considered new Christians as in-laws. That's an interesting concept!
