Playing in the snow with my best friend
trying to catch snowflakes on our tongues
building a snowman with charcoal eyes
and a carrot for a nose she says looks like mine
she was my best friend
my childhood sweetheart
Playing in the rain with my best friend
trying to catch raindrops on our tongues
dancing together holding hands forever
splashing through puddles, circles of fun
As she looked at me through the falling rain
that day in my heart, I knew I loved her
as the rain slowly rolled down her cheek
she pretended to be crying but I knew better
so I pinched her then ran until I fell laughing
tumbling to the ground
she pinched me back
It felt good to love as a child
falling asleep with dreams of tomorrow
together forever holding hands
making plans
dancing through our rainy days
It was hard waking up from our dream
but we grew up together
discovering this world of joy and pain
though some say, Nothing last forever
I really do believe love is everlasting
as I watched the raindrops roll down her cheek
though only a child
somehow I knew
I would always love her
now sixty years on
she forever holds a place in my heart
filled with joy and childhood dreams
and yes, I am certain
love is everlasting!
We sit watching the rain
still best friends
holding hands
as the rain rolls down the lines on her cheek
she pretends to be crying but I know better
dancing together
holding each other forever
splashing in puddles
circles of fun
together we watch
as the circles slowly...ripple away
