Topic: RELEASE (08/02/18)
Kelsea was suddenly awakened by loud voices. Looking out the window she could see several cars in her front yard. There were figures with what looked like guns and someone was pounding on the front door yelling police!

Kelsea bolted for the stairs just in time to see her father close the door behind him.

"Get back in your room Kelsea!" It was her mother holding a pair of her father's jeans.

"What's happening?” she screamed.

"Go back to your room," replied her mother.

Kelsea's older sister joined her at the top of the stairs. "What's going on?" asked Sarah.

"I don't know but it's the police!" replied Kelsea.

The two girls slipped down the stairs and peered out the window. Their father was on his knees and an officer was placing him in handcuffs.

"What are you doing you, idiots," screamed her mother. "You know he has done nothing wrong. For God's sake, you have worked with him for twenty years!"

One of the officers stepped between her and her husband. "Go back in the house mam. This doesn't concern you."

"Doesn't concern me?" she yelled. "Anything that happens to him concerns me!" She shoved the officer aside and handed her husband's jeans to the one standing next to him. "Have the decency to let him put his pants on Larry! I can't believe you are a part of this," she shouted glaring at him.

"Just following orders," he replied. Taking the jeans he grabbed Jonathan’s arm and shoved him toward one of the police cars. In minutes the cars were gone.

"Mom, what just happened?" Kelsea and Sarah ran to their mother who stood staring at the retreating tail lights.

"Something your dad and I have been expecting. We hoped we were wrong but apparently not." Her voice trailed off and she seated herself on the front steps.

"Where are they taking him?" Kelsea's voice was shaking.

"To jail, I suspect," she replied putting her arms around the girls.

"Jail," both girls yelled in unison. “To jail, but dad is an officer. Why are they arresting him?"

"Come inside and I will tell you what I know," replied their mother. "It's not good and I'm afraid we are in for the fight of our lives."

Collapsing into a chair Monica hesitated for a moment. The girls could see she was having a hard time putting into words what had just happened. "For some time now there has been an investigation going on in the department. It appears someone believes the sheriff is corrupt and they are trying to uncover evidence to charge him."

"That's ridiculous," replied Sarah. "Sherriff Jones is a Christian, he wouldn't do anything wrong!"
"Neither would dad!" yelled Kelsea.

"I know and so do they. However, sometimes our justice system will use psychological techniques in an attempt to gather information from one person that they can use against someone else."

"Dad will not turn on his friends," Sarah said, "What do they want him to do?"

"Since he was friends with the Sherriff, they intend to put pressure on him to see if he will give them something they can use against him," replied Monica.

"But what if he doesn't know anything?" inquired Kelsea.

"Unfortunately that doesn't matter. The idea is to scare or pressure him into saying something they can use to suit their purpose."

"But that's not right," offered Sarah. "Dad hasn't done anything wrong, how can they convict him?"

"It's not right," replied Monica,” but it happens every day. Unscrupulous attorneys threaten someone with charges that will put them in jail if they don't cooperate. If they do they will be released."

"Even if they haven't done anything wrong?" inquired Kelsea.

"It doesn't matter,” replied Monica. "A sharp attorney can turn innocent actions or remarks into a chargeable offense if they so desire."

"Dad's not going to cooperate even if it means he goes to jail. Dad won't lie for any reason," said Kelsea.

"You're right, Kelsea," replied Monica. "But we don't have the money to go to court and your dad will spend time in jail before he will incriminate a just person."

"But won't God protect him?" asked Sarah.

"Anything God allows in the life of a believer, He will use for his good and God's glory," replied Monica. "But that doesn't mean everything that happens to a believer will be good. We just have to trust God for the outcome."

This is a great story, full of good dialogue and drama. In the beginning I was a bit confused by one line: "Kelsea bolted for the stairs just in time to see her father close the door behind him." - I was thinking that perhaps dad had closed a bedroom door and was upstairs - I didn't really know where dad was in the scene. You may want to adjust the setting to make that more clear. Good job though - the comments by mom reminds me a little of the Mueller investigation, haha!
