While he is experiencing restorative rest by sleeping soundly in his crib, I am gathering reserves of energy to charge through the rest of the day, Mommy-style. I still remember a time when there was no “vacation” to speak of, and when our around-the-clock feeding schedule only served to push Mommy further into the arid wasteland of Sleep Deprivation. At the time, it felt like a one-way ticket.
What a difference nine months can make! Baby Boy now sleeps through the night and has regular periods of snack, play, and rest. Another glance at the clock confirms that we are nearing the end of his nap and thus, Mommy’s break. I wonder… Would it seem ironic to other people that, around this time, the land of Time Alone gets rather… well… lonely?
He stirs. My heart leaps for joy! In bubbling anticipation, I tip-toe down the hallway toward the white door, marked with a blue letter “M”. Light floods the room as I open the door, and a round, little face with an eager smile bounces above the crib rail. My heart swells. Yes, the land of Time Alone is nice enough to visit for a short spell, but it does not compare to the fulfilling and fun time spent in Learning, Play, and Companionship with my special little buddy. It’s always more enjoyable to vacation with a friend!
