Then unearthed by fire and water. I’m found
Only after wise seekers sweat hard and dig deep,
To sift out, cut, polish, and put in a keep
Sapphires mounted in jewelry and crowns.
But the symbols in temples worn by high priests.
And the glory of ladies and royal head wreaths
Are just dust from creating heaven’s great lapis throne
Where God sits and calls out to each of his own
To enter his presence, then find his bequeaths.
What color am I? In crystal clear water
Where you might go to play with a son or a daughter
And gather the creatures hidden under a shell
To bring them up on the banks where certain plants grow as well
That will transform new cloth from just plain to much brighter
Only after they’re cut and pounded and pressed
And leached into water to bring out the best
In silks and fine linens to show off great kings;
Or cottons that make up hardworking jeans:
Hues that echo old tassels that call pride to rest.
What color am I? In a heart that is sad
That has pondered so long on a world gone half bad.
Cut and pounded with grief
It cries out for relief
And wonders if there is still joy to be had.
’Til the eyes are drawn high
To the far away sky
Where the sun sings a song
Of Who lies beyond
Then depression soon melts with a sigh.
