That night I lay awake in bed listening intently. It was quiet. I wondered, was there a knock? Multiple times, I jumped out of bed, ran over to my bedroom door, and whispered “Jesus is that you?” Although I did not hear a response, I couldn’t risk not opening the door. To make sure, I checked each time, but there was no one there. This continued for the better part of the night and I was getting tired. Then it hit me—I must have missed His knock! Now what would happen? Would Jesus try again the next night or was that my last chance? I eventually feel asleep crying.
The next morning, I awoke crying. I implored God to forgive me for not hearing Jesus’s knock. I explained how I checked several times, but He wasn’t there. The thought of missing Jesus was devastating to me. I was determined the next night I was going to hear Jesus.
This memory always brings a smile to face because at such an early age I knew that having Jesus as part of my life was important. To this day, decades later, I stand and say that Jesus is important and having Him as my Lord and Savior is the best decision I’ve made.
