At the tone, please record your message… beep “Danielle, I called you an hour ago, where are you? Why aren’t you calling me? It’s noon and I know you should be getting home from the gym any minute, call me, pleeeeese!”
At the tone, please record your message… beep “Danielle, it’s 12:30, where are you? Why aren’t you calling me? I really, really need to talk to you about something.”
At the tone… beep “OK, I don’t know if I should be getting mad or worried. Why aren’t you calling me? I need you to tell me how I should handle this, it’s about work. Call me, please, please, please.”
At the tone… beep “Alright Danielle, it’s 2:30 and this isn’t funny. You’ve never not been there for me. What is going on? Please call me as soon as you can.”
At the tone… beep “Well, it’s 4:00 now, I’m leaving work soon. I’m going straight home and I’ll try again when I get there. I don’t know what I should do about this work situation and you always know the best thing to do. I need you Danielle.”
At the tone… beep “DANIELLE! I NEED YOU!” I know you’re there Danielle. Why won’t you talk to me? You promised to be my Mentor. You promised you would be there for me. How can I make this decision without you?
Diane was about ready to break down and cry. Then she remembered their last conversation. “You know in your heart what you should do Diane, and whenever you don’t you can pray and the Lord will direct you as you surrender to Him.”
Actually, that was the same thing Danielle had said to her the last few times she’d called her for advice. She kept telling her to pray and trust her heart. That was easy for Danielle, she had been a Christian for a bazillion years. This was new to her. If she was honest, she didn’t even really know what Danielle meant by those words.
At the tone… beep Click
“OK Lord, I’m bringing my problem to You. You already know the whole story, You know they are all watching me to see if I really act like a Christian. I don’t want to let You down Lord, You know that. So what should I do? How should I respond in this situation? I want to please You Lord and Danielle always knows the right thing to do. Help me know Lord. Amen”
At the tone… beep “OK Danielle, I did what you told me to do. I prayed. There was no writing on the wall, no thundering Voice from the skies. Please, please call me, I need you.
After eating some dinner, Diane sat with a steaming cup of tea and her Bible. She tried three more times to call Danielle. No answer. Finally, she opened her Bible to 1 Peter and started reading where her Pastor had left off in Chapter 2. When she got to verse 12 she felt the words leap off the page and into her heart.
12 Be careful to live properly among your unbelieving neighbors. 13...respect all human authority. 15 It is God’s will that your honorable lives should silence those ignorant people who make foolish accusations against you. 16 For you are free 17 Respect everyone… fear God.
“Thank You for answering my prayer Lord. I now know exactly how You want me to conduct myself in the midst of this attack on my character at the office.”
At the tone… beep “It’s me again. Thank you Danielle, for making me go to God. You were right. God does have the answers and He does want us to come to Him first. You are the greatest Mentor ever!”
She sat smiling, with peace in her heart where all day there had been turmoil. Now, instead of dreading tomorrow at work, she was looking forward to seeing what God would do through her obedience.
Just then her phone rang. ‘Incoming call from Danielle’ said the screen. But she wasn’t ready to let anyone else into this sweet time of fellowship with Jesus. She would call Danielle later. Right now, she wanted to be alone with her One True Love.
