Mama slipped in quietly with her brave face on. Jolene never knew she was there until mama’s quivering hands embraced her own.
“Lord, I know you are here. I know that my dear George is right there with you. I rejoice in his release from physical pain. I praise you for being our Comforter and our Father. I trust that Your grace will carry my precious baby girl down that aisle. If it is okay with you, please let her daddy watch. Let her feel his eyes follow her with each step she takes. May his love combined with Your love encompass her like a warm patched quilt made specially for her. In Jesus name, Amen.”
Jolene and mama hugged silently, breathing in the somberness of this moment. “Darling, I have something to give you. This is from your daddy. He spent many nights praying over this letter from his hospital bed. He loved you so much and he knew this day would hold joy entwined with sorrow. The Lord had to help him work through the guilt he felt because of that. That struggle birthed this letter to you. I have not read it. His instructions were to give it to you on your wedding day just before you walked down the aisle. I will give you some privacy to read it.
With a deafening silence filling the room, Jolene took in a deep breath and opened the letter. “Hey Punksky! It’s me your old man! I know that my writing this to you does not excuse me for missing the most important day in your life! But, I kinda have a good excuse don’t you think??” Jolene laughed out loud while wiping away the tears. Daddy was always a jokster!
“I hope that made you smile! You have such a beautiful smile Punksky! Here is what I want you to do. Go to the mirror, fix your makeup, dry your face and then come back to my letter. I promise my words will still be here when you come back!” Jolene looked in the mirror and groaned at the puffiness of her eyes. She smoothed everything out as best she could, took another deep breath and then went back and picked the letter up.
“Much better sweetheart! And yes, I do know how beautiful you look today because I had the privilege of watching you each day of your life up to this point. From the moment I first laid eyes on you at birth until the last day I saw you, you took my breath away! I love you so much my little Punksky! You are the best things I ever did! Like how I took credit for that one? Don’t tell mom!”
“Oh Daddy!” Jolene said with a smile in her heart. She sat back in the white wooden rocker and pictured him playing with mama the way he used to do. Then mama would chase him around with a tattered old dish towel trying to pop him on the bottom.
“Honey, please forgive me for not being there to walk you down that aisle. I talked to Jesus many times about my displeasure if I missed this day, but clearly He knew that He would be enough in my absence. He’s always enough. Don’t ever forget that. Well, I don’t want to keep Elias waiting on you. I am confident his palms are already sweating without me delaying the ceremony from heaven! Just want you to know I think you will make a fantastic wife! You had the perfect example in mama didn’t you! Guess it’s time for me to go back to my party here. You’ll be happy to know that I’m a better dancer now! I love you forever my sweet Punksky! Daddy”
“Lord, thank you for bringing my daddy to my wedding. I needed him today.”
Mama peeked her head in and saw the Lord’s peace fall on her daughter. “It’s time darling!”
“Let’s go mama. Daddy said we shouldn’t keep Elias waiting!”

I don't think I would change anything.
Yours was a moving story. If there were any grammatical errors the emotion has drown them out. I know there are some brides out there who need to read this.
Good job!
Beautifully written...
God bless~
What an excellent job you did and I'm really excited and happy about how well-received it has been this week.
