At the steady thump, thump, thump of his heart pounding in his ears, he doubted that he could claw his way past his fear and confusion and gain control. He had been so badly broken that he was certain that he could not get himself together to strike back. In the last battle the enemy was greatly superior to him, and he had underestimated his strength. Could he reinforce after such a great defeat and mere exhaustion?
Bold in courage, that is exactly what he did, picked himself up and determined to fight a good old-fashioned slug-em-in-the gut battle. Unable to advance against his antagonist and battle weary, he was still a soldier, and a soldier fights. With a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence, the great soldier began a forward movement, but the enemy opened such a terrific artillery fire, he was halted dead in his tracks. He was outnumbered, and he knew it but not so demoralized that he was ready to give up.
Utterly bewildered, he struggled to clear his mind and form a plan. His ammunition had drawn short, and he was beyond reach of any supplies. He dared to move from his position and was now forced to be still, despondent that he had failed to gain a decisive victory. It was near dark, and he perceived no forward movement by the enemy. As darkness closed in, he quickly cut green saplings in hope of warming himself and availing himself of the opportunity to obtain a few hours of rest. The flush of annoyance mounted his brow when he realized the saplings would not burn. It was cold, a bone chilling cold, but he was more exhausted than anything, so he laid down beneath the slender, crescent moon on the withered grass and fell into a sound sleep.
As the night died and the light of morning strengthened, it was time for this good saint to lift his voice to heaven for help, a move long overdue, for he knew he could not go on alone. He should have called out when his enemy was only firing darts, but he had delayed, and now it was cannons. He recognized the greatness of his folly. “Ah, yes, it is a battle plan I need, above all else,” he exclaimed. “God grant that I may once again hear Your voice and be led into victory. Say at least that I may still hope. May the great warrior archangel Michael go with me as my safeguard?”
The Commander spoke peace and confidence to his busy mind. He would have died for lack of instructions. He realized he was not outnumbered but exactly the opposite. A change came over his spirit, and he knew he was destined to win. His ammunition was now replenished, and truth was on his side. He was ready to launch a new campaign, certain of victory. His odds then became vastly superior. Truly he would be a living example that victory favors those who call upon God.
Never had the wonderful powers of his great Commander been more displayed. His tenacious adversary fell back and evacuated. Prayer, the Word of God, and a spoken decree, like candles in the darkness, inflicted such carnage on the enemy that he was forced to retreat. He knew there would be more skirmishes, but he would be battle ready on the offensive at all times. He had an immense Force to aid him, and he knew he would never be overpowered. So great had been the tension of mind and nerves that as a vent to his feelings, he laughed loud and long. He split his side laughing. Just the remembrance of the One who had remained faithful during all his trials, instilled in him the exhilaration that he would do so to the end. Tranquility reigned again.
“Call unto me and I will answer, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.” (Jeremiah 33:33)

A few of my favorites, "he should have called upon the enemy when he was only throwing darts." A call for most of us to be ready when the enemy really pounces.
Another one,"Prayer, the Word of God and a spoken decree, like candles in the darkness, inflicted such carnage he was forced to retreat." I was cheering!!
You were very clear in the battle and the plan. One that we all need both physically and spiritually.
Well done!
I should never go from memory, I do apologize.
God bless~
