As we folded the material just so and pinned the pattern securely, we began the cutting process. As a child I always hated this process, it took forever, and I just wanted to wrap my beautiful material around me, and not cut it at all. Yet that never served the purpose. Being older now, it occurred to me that had the material not been pinned to the fold just right I would not have been able to cut the material according to the pattern. My untrained cutting skills had difficulty with the accuracy needed to follow the pattern. The pins were the steadfast hold of the boundary I was trying to follow.
This reminded me of my life. So many times I ran ahead, not pinned down by the principles of the Bible and would end up with a mess. The material cut, but not according to the pattern, and at first glance; looking like a total loss. Yet, with the help of the Master, my mistakes were separated and the life material refolded and repined to the pattern and the purpose restored.
I smiled as my friend showed me the answer to my why question. Because the pattern was held securely by the pins while being cut, I had produced a mirror piece which fit perfectly to the original cutting. When we pin our dreams, our desires, and our needs to the pattern God has laid out, the final result is a perfect fit. Through the painful cutting and pinning of our lives to God’s pattern, we often squirm with impatience and complaints about how and why the process has to be done this way. When we follow the pattern God has laid out, even when we don’t want to or don’t understand, and we obey the laws and principles of those pins that hold the material of our lives to the fold; it is there where we decide to be a masterpiece or a disaster.

Just loved the metaphor! You extended it and used it in a couple of different ways that made me feel that I wasn't the only one who runs 'off the pattern,' which is encouraging.
The only bit of red ink that I would give is that I think you used the word 'fold' a few too many times. It became a bit too much like you were battering me with the word if you know what I mean?
Other than that, just loved it. Shalom
