“Remember this one Melody?” Holly Blossom asked holding up a photo of Mount Rushmore.
“Of course, how could I forget? We were so young then. And to think that was only four years ago as we set off on our university adventure and now we are finally parting ways,” Melody Palmer responded wistfully.
“Don’t worry we will be together again soon.” Holly rushed over, crushing Melody in an embrace, and whispered in her ear, “I promise I will come visit you next summer. We can make new memories in China.”
Extracting herself from Holly’s arms Melody grabbed the photo and placed it in the correct book from her collection. Now, all her memories were safely tucked away, each book keeping memories both through words and pictures.
“I know,” Melody sighed. “Now let’s conquer packing the rest of my stuff, without opening books for more photos,” she teased wiping an imaginary tear from her eye.
Shaking her head at her best friend’s quirky hobby of putting her photos in used books bought on vacation, Holly and Melody worked silently for an hour putting books and belongings in boxes before one snapshot slipped out of its protective space flittering to the floor like a feather. “What’s this?” Holly asked stooping over to pick it up. “I didn’t know you collected old photos. And who is the babe in arms?”
“Let me see that.” Melody reached out to grab the black and white photo and what she guessed was the corresponding book. Turning over the classic third edition she said, “It looks like 'August Roses in Bloom' is from our pre-finals vacation to Plymouth, Massachusetts.”
Spotting an envelope on the floor Melody bent down to retrieve it and noticed a letter tucked inside. With the book in one hand and the photo and envelope in the other Melody exclaimed, “I have never seen them before but my guess is that these three go together. Now, what is the story behind them?”
