The Emmaus Walks take place twice a year, fall and spring. There is a walk for men, then one for women. We learned about God’s ‘agape love’. The essence of ‘agape love’ is self-sacrifice. It is our relationship with God, a life changing relationship, filled with Devine love that God has for us. This love was shared by many volunteers who gave talks, prepared our meals, and offered us many other blessings that I will not describe here, because I would not want to ruin the surprise for any future ‘Pilgrims’, as we were called.
Jesus died for us on the cross, not because we deserved it, but to show His love for us while we were sinners. Romans 5:8 “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” We are to serve others sacrificially. ‘Agape love’ is not based on a feeling, but is a purposeful act of our will, our resolving to put other’s needs above our own.
When we become Christians, that ‘agape love’ is in our hearts and we obey Jesus. John 13:34 “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.” Only God brings out our self-sacrificing love which proves we are His children, and tells us that we should offer our lives for our brothers. John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
Those three days have changed my Christian life! I reconfirmed my Christianity with God and have a new family of Christians. I was also able to rid myself of some mental baggage which had poisoned my thinking for the past four years. Those were the most intense days of feeling Christian love that I have ever experienced in my life. I hope you too will someday walk the same walk and experience such an intense love.
Daddy, Abba Father, Father, Jesus, or God. He created us to be winners, trusting in Him for guidance and prevenient grace. He wooed us from our conception to this day, knowing that our relationship with Him will never let us stray so far that we could never return to Him. This is our life-changing relationship, our ‘agape love’.

Apart from that, you've described your thoughts very well.
I have been twice invited but conflicting schedules prevailed.
