“Right this way to the production floor Ms. Wittic.” The manager motioned for me to follow him into a cubicle nest buzzing with worker bees clad in office garb. They were all busy clicking away on their keyboards; eyes locked to their computer screens. I couldn’t help staring at the words sprawled across the screen of the computer to my right. It read, “I heard from a good source that God isn’t real.”
Before I could even process the information, Mr. Lucifer interrupted.
“This will be your station, but before you get settled, let me show you the other departments.”
I forged a grin and nodded. “OK great.”
We sauntered over to an even bigger room filled with more worker bees. They were bustling about transmitting data through various modes of communication. The ones who wore headsets united in choruses of chatter. Some were consumed with forwarding text messages; others were sending emails. However, the majority were preoccupied with posting picture and updating status on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. One of my eyebrows jumped to the top of my forehead when I realize that the update being posted on social media contained a variation of the message that the computer screen in my department was displaying.
“You are now in the reproduction center. Your department is in charge of generating the ideas, after which they are transferred to this department where each concept is reproduced and distributed.”
“Are the reproductions exact duplicates?”
“Well Ms. Wittic, that’s the beauty of this department. Tweaking is actually encouraged before the product gets passed on to the consumers.”
What I’m I getting myself into? I pondered.
It became clear this company specializes in creating and distributing scandals.
“Do you ever get complaints?”
He peered over his glasses as his eyes found mine. “We do. A lot. Our complaints department handles those. I’ll show you.”
He later showed me the training rooms where employees are taught different methods of pulling inspiration for production, from the mistakes people make. As well as how to transmit the information created by mastering such things as word choices, voice intonation, and expressions. Workers are also taught techniques to counteract complaints. Skills such as persuading and commanding attention are sharpened daily. All are tools needed to effectively spread hearsays the company generates.
After touring the various departments, I went back to my cubicle.
My thoughts drifted... Wow. I know everyone says this is the place to be… but I’m beginning to have second guesses.
As weeks expanded into months, I confirmed that our company was actually hurting consumers. We were spreading pain with each invention. My initial sunny attitude towards the job began to wither, and I dreaded showing up for work. I hated having to bend the truth—at times I even broke it.
My “I’ve-had-enough” moment came after receiving a text from my good friend Cornel. He occasionally forwards inspiring words of encouragement and Bible verses. I always enjoy reading them. But this one melted my soul. It caught my attention and held it captive. “Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.” Ephesians 4:29. By the end of the text, I knew I needed to start job hunting.

I opened up my documents on the computer, and scrolled through the files to the draft of my acceptance letter. Eagerness prompted me to edit it several times. I wanted it to be perfect. This letter must convey my enthusiasm for working with their organization.
They have a great working environment, plus they are customer driven, so this leads to excellent customer reviews. While they too are in product distribution, they only deliver the best. They practice positive techniques that don’t trap customers, and they emphasize factualism. The best part is that they are endorsed by the Holy Trinity; Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. I can’t wait to start. Perusing the letter a final time, I clicked the Send button. Goodbye, Grapevine Unlimited. Hello, Inspiration Incorporated!
