Birds were quite an attraction for me. I spend a lot of time listening to their calls and trying to find them high in the trees. After a day of bird-watching, I would spend time looking at the ceramic robin. Occasionally, my grandmother would let me hold it. This was an extra pleasure. I loved this experience and hoped one day the bird would be mine.
One day as I was out spying on the birds when I noticed a bluebird had built a nest in a nearby small tree. As I watched the nest, I heard the sound of peep, peep. The baby birds had hatched. I saw one fly to a branch. Slowly, I eased up to the tree. With my tiny hand I reached out and grabbed it. I brought the baby in the house to show my family.
Everyone grasped and my mother scolded me for taking it out of the tree. She made me put it back. When I returned the baby bird, I heard some harsh words from the mother bird as well. It seemed like I was in everyone's dog house!
After dinner, my grandmother handed me the ceramic robin. "It's yours because I know how much you love birds--but you have to promise me you'll never take a baby bird from its mother and you won't break this one!"
Today, the ceramic robin sits in my study. I never removed another bird from its mother. When I see the robin, it reminds me of my grandmother and her willingness to give me such a priceless figurine of her love.

I felt like there was something "missing." Next time, instead of just telling us what happened, try to show us. You say "I brought the baby bird to the house to show everyone." Show us how you felt. Were you confused? Excited? Happy? Try to add some more details.
