Nothing makes me feel better than receiving a thank you note. In today's world, the thank you note has gone the way of the dinosaur.

I learned the value of writing thank you notes from my freshman English teacher. Not only was her class filled with American and World Literature and other writing topics, she instilled the thank you note at the top of her list. We practiced writing thank you notes four or five times monthly. She said, "always remember to write a thank you note for someone's kindness."

I hear many of my friends express disappointment with their children and grandchildren when they have done something for them and receive no acknowledgement for their thoughtfulness.

Emily Post and Dear Abbey stressed thank you notes as well. They believed it showed civility and good manners.

The next time someone does something nice for you, take time to write them a note. A note doesn't have to be long--just sincere. Who knows when the opportunity might be the last time to show them that you are thankful for them and what they mean to you. Pick up the pen and bless someone today!
