Topic: Weary (05/03/12)
Weary is an excellent descriptive
adjective for Christians. We begin full of energy and devotion. Along the way, our embers cool and we become numb as we struggle with our own imperfection and inability to influence our world. We know the truth but are unable to translate our faith into action and change.

As we look at the faith of our fathers, we discover the same kind of struggle in their lives. Moses found weary in his vocabulary as he struggled to keep his band of followers together in the wilderness. Abraham knew weary as he waited for the birth of his children. Joseph toiled with weary as a slave in Egypt. Job witnessed weary daily as he watched the destruction of his possession, family and health.

Jesus knew the word weary better than any one. He showed love, healed people, performed miracles and provided salvation. In return, weary dropped in blood from his forehead in the Garden and bled from his head and side on the Cross.

Through the struggles and weariness, Moses, Abraham, Joseph, Job and Jesus never gave up. Moses guided his band of disbelievers through the desert to the promise land. Abraham became the Father of Nations. Joseph's time as a slave turned into leadership and family forgiveness. Job watched his life destroyed and reinvented by the grace of God. Jesus overcame the world, death and rose as Saviour of all mankind.

Today, Christians faced weary daily. Whether it is loss of jobs, homes, personal possessions or persecution, Christians are weary. We feel like Paul. Which is better to live on earth or go to heaven? We are anxious for answers. We hear the words of Christ echoing, "If I go to prepare a place for you, I will come again." We long to shout Maranatha, Lord Jesus! We are eager to leave our weary world. Paul admoinished us in Galatians 6:9, " do not grow weary in well doing for in due time we shall reap if we do not grow weary. As Christians, we must study His Word, pray, seek divine guidance of the Holy Spirit, be active in our churches, and share the truth of God's world to those around us. The Salvation Army has a slogan, "Doing the most good." As Christians, we must continue to do the most good, seek strength for the long journey, and know Jesus is coming. He will restore our weary world. We are simply His weary servants--in waiting.

Profoundly stirring entry. A lovely devotional piece to Jesus Christ, and an important message and reminder for all of us.

This is a lovely devotion. I really liked how you told how everyday life can make anyone weary and then used examples in the Bible to bring home your message.

I did think you may have used the word weary a bit much. I know part of it was to make your point, but sometimes by showing the reader instead of telling it can have a greater impact. For example with Moses something like Moses trudged across the dessert. The complaints of his followers echoed in his head. It's just another way to paint a picture for the reader.

Your beginning was outstanding. It drew me right in and I could visualize what you were saying. I also thought your ending was quite strong, bringing the reader full circle. You definitely nailed the topic too. A lot of people used Jesus as an example, but adding the others was refreshing and different. Nicely done.
