I was inquisitive for a five years, always wanting to look into thing, finding a great mystery in every nook. Christmas was a big thing for any child, and I would be turning six that next coming year, and had already learned the great mystery of how mom and dad were Santa Claus. So when Christmas came around that year, I really started seeing some differences.
Every where I looked there was that little baby, in a barn, with animals all around, and a mother and father there. I asked my mom about it, but she was too busy for silly questions, and my brothers just laughed, and said not to think too much about it, or Santa wouldn't bring me anything that year.
Well the time came, as each year it did, mom would pack us up in the car, and do the shopping mall thing. You know... Go to the Mall, sit on Santa's lap, tell him you want this or that toy, he relays it to mom some how, and come Christmas morning you might just have something close to what you were wanting. That year was no different, but like I said, I was an odd child.
When I got up in that Dime Store Santa's lap, and he gave his normal hardy laugh, and ask what I wanted for Christmas, well, I looked right at that phony, and as bold as could be, I said, "I want the truth."
"Uh, well, um," he stammered for a second, "what do you mean by the truth, little boy?"
"About Christmas," I said, as straight a face as I could get, because I meant business, even though I was only five. "What's with all the presents, and stuff, and what does it all have to do with some baby."
Well Santa Looked at me, then looked at my mom, who had a shocked look on her face, then at the store manager, who looked rather upset, and then looked out at the line of children still waiting. He "ummed" a few more times, and then something must have snapped in his brain.
He looked right at me, and pulled off his fake beard, and said, "Son, I have never told this to any one, so you will have to bear with me." He then went on to tell me the most amazing story of the birth of Christ. I can still remember every word, and he never missed a beat, he even told me how man had messed up so bad that God had sent His own son to the world to save them.
He told me how the angel had come to Mary, and then Joseph, and when it was time and they could find room in the Inn, they stopped in a stable. He told of the shepherds in the field, and how the angel had come to tell them the very thing he was telling me. Born that day in the city of David, was the savior of the world, that child was Christ.
Well, Santa lost his job that day, for taking too long with one overly inquisitive child, but I got my wish that year for Christmas, I was told the truth. Santa and I have kept in touch through the years, and he has always thought of me as a real blessing, even though he lost his job because me.
You see, because of that little boy asking questions, he saw that his faith was more to him than any job. He went on from then to go to a Bible collage, then went into the ministry, and now holds a position as a pastor in a good Church, teaching others of God's love. But he always told me I was a special blessing for him, because I was like the first fruit of his ministry unto the Lord.
God bless you, Santa Claus.
