Megan looked down at Jess before she answered. “Jess I’m up and you didn’t have to yell at the top of your lungs. The people in New York heard you, besides my blinking alarm clock woke me. I may be deaf but I can still see and read lips quite nicely.”
Jess stood there grinning up at Megan and finally said. “Megan I know you are totally deaf, but at times I love to tease you. We both lost one of our senses later in life which makes our marriage perfect and unique.”
Megan slowly made her way down the stairs and gave Jess a poke in his arm before she spoke. “Jess at times you drive me insane. You are always in a rush. Slow down and smell the roses honey. Life is too short and always rushing you miss so many blessings.”
Jess lowered his eyes before he signed. Megan since I lost my sight I try to get to the stores before there are too many people. I can pretty much navigate without holding on to your arm. My other senses are more acute and I can sense or feel objects and people around me easier. If there’s lots of people my senses are not as sharp. That’s when I take your arm and you literally guide me so I won’t knock objects and people over.”
Megan gave him a tender kiss and hug before she spoke. “Jess, I sometimes forget about you being blind. For that I apologize and ask your forgiveness. You can sense objects in your way and go around them which is so amazing to me. I can see, but trip over my own two feet. We are two good ones together. You’re blind and I’m deaf. We make a good pair.”
Jess punched Megan in the shoulder before he signed. “ Megan apology accepted now lets get the lead out and get on the road. I want to get shopping done early so we can go for a lovely walk in the park and enjoy our time with the Lord.”
Megan sighed loudly before speaking. “Jess let’s get breakfast before we go grocery shopping. We always buy too much if we are hungry, so breakfast first and then shopping. Okay?”
Jess stomped his foot, shrugged his shoulders and signed. “Megan sometimes I wish you weren’t so level-headed. You’re right about eating so I guess we’ll stop at Sonic and grab breakfast before we go to the grocery store. If that is alright with you.”
Megan looked lovingly at Jess and softly spoke. “Yeah, lets grab something from Sonic and hit the road as you like to say.”
Jess and Megan stopped at Sonic and headed for the grocery store. Megan parked the car and told Jess that they were the first ones there. Jess jumped out of the car grinning from ear to ear and waited for Megan. They walked hand in hand to the store and Megan reached for a shopping cart not paying attention to her surroundings.
Jess put his arm around Megan’ waist and grabbed the basket forcing Megan in the opposite direction she was trying to go moving them next to the building. Jess took a deep breath shaking his head before he signed. “Honey I may be blind but I sensed danger in our path and had to take us away from it. Whoever that person was running towards us made the hair on the back of my neck stand up. I sensed something wrong.
Megan was shaken by Jess’ actions and put her head on his shoulder she whispered. “Oh Jess I let my guard down. That man that ran past had a gun. Your quick actions may have saved our lives. You don’t have to see to discern danger. Thanks honey, I love you.”
After the police left they got their shopping done and headed home. After putting away the groceries and thanking God once more Megan grabbed the blanket, the picnic basket their Bible and Jess’s hand. They headed towards the door walking hand in hand to their favorite tree in the park. After lunch Megan read from Proverbs 16:21 while Jess lay with his head in her lap smiling contentedly.
