Sat on the floor
Next to a green cot
Far from the door
Her insides were full, overflowing with clothes
Some T-shirts and pants, warm sox for cold toes
A picture or three, of loved ones back home
Sweet memories, for wherever they roam
A little black Bible, “To Corey, with love”
Inside a bookmark, the shape of a dove
To remind him of peace, though he was at war
His wife had bought him, at the local drug store
Around the floor laid more of her kind
“Postage Paid” said a box with brown twine
A big duffle bag, with a blue and red tag
And a little suitcase, with a purpley lace
All of a sudden a very loud sound
Caused Lucy to shake some and jiggle around!
A helmet came crashing from off of the bed
“Incoming!” yelled a voice with great dread!
But Lucy stayed calm, on the floor as she bounced
Relieved to hear finally, a voice that announced
“All Clear” then a moment or two came many feet walking
Noise filled the room with several men talking
She felt a strong hand then open her up
Take out the Bible and cheering erupt!
“We made it through”, a voice said sincerely
‘With God’s loving hand, our lives were saved… clearly”.
