Topic: Black (10/15/09)
Black; the absence of color? On the contrary; its the blending of all colors to the extent of each individual identy being lost. It is absorbed into the mass never to return. Blending substances with pigments, when you have all of the basic colors in fairly even amounts, results in black.

This makes me think of the worldy elements of life. When a person endeavors to gain and hoard together the worlds substances, their life is not brightened but, rather darkened. They may gain outward gaity but, they cut off the light to their soul.

When people ban together for a wrong purpose, the color of each life and talent lent is melded together into one evil blackness. Each lose their identity to the purpose and can't get it back. Its like when a victim is killed during a robbery. Everyone in the group can be charged with the murder, even the getaway driver. We also see this in cults when an evil hearted leader controls everything and everyone in the group. The whole takes on an aura of blackness.

Now, consider an array of colored lights. When you combine all of the colors found in a rainbow, the result is a white light. This makes me think of lives lived in Christ. Such a life may contain many elements but, when they are combined in God's will, there is no blackness.

When people ban together for the Lord's work, the unity of the various talents, like an array of colors, combine to give off a beautiful white light for God's glory. And, yet, the colors combined here never lose their individualy identity. When you pass a ray of white light through a prism, it seperates into its various colors. Christ is the prism of the church. Through Him our individual identy shows. He knows each and every member seperately.

Now, back to black. There are many beautiful things, both natural and man-made, that come in black. One of the best is "lights out and goodnight".

Interesting analysis of black and white light and blending colors; I like the comparison of the lights to people coming together to use their talents and abilities. I'd never thought about it quite like that before.
