I'm knocking on your door.
You know what I'm going to ask
Just like those times before.
Church members must be getting tired
of all prayer requests titled "unspoken."
I try to put on a happy face,
but my heart feels empty and broken.
I really do love children,
and I enjoy work in the nursery,
but time seems to speed up
with each year's anniversary.
My husband is so loving.
I did not choose bad.
Lord, you and I know
he would make a great dad.
Thirty-five has hit hard
with the worry of risk,
and I don't want my man
to throw out a disc.
I do so want to please you
with a trusting attitude.
I do not want to complain,
but insteasd be filled with gratitude.
I have just returned
from the 25th baby shower.
Was it my imagination
or have many relationships soured?
Well-intentioned friends and family
seem to think they understand.
I love them for their concern,
but couldn't they just hold my hand.
Remember Auntie Nellie,
she was entirely too nosy.
Why did I want to slap her
when she just wanted to be cozy?
I want others to be satisfied.
I really want to see them happy.
So forgive me again for the sin
of wanting to get snappy.
And then there was cousin Gertrude
who acted so very weird.
I am truly happy for her five kids
and wish her nothing but cheer.
Just then my friend Yolanda arrived
to express her sympathy.
Did she have to be so loud
in the details of gynecology?
Oh my! Grandma Maggie was
perhaps the worst of all.
Please take away all bitterness,
and release me totally from gall.
She told me You must be punishing us
for all of our wrongs.
I could not believe my ears.
This party had gone on too long.
You told me to avoid
all bitterness and strife.
Her words had cut me to the core
just like a filet knife.
Is she right, Oh God?
Are we really doomed?
Will you forgive me right now
for all the times I've fumed?
No, this cannot be right!
I have read the book of Job.
And I recollect once again
your tattered purple robe.
The one upon the cross
all covered in your blood.
This overwhelming thought
comes over me in a flood.
You already paid for my debt
and sealed my sin in the tomb.
I am a new creation,
just like one from the womb.
I cannot believe I am free.
You love me as your child.
I want to be your servant,
and not be prone to get riled.
Lord, it's been great talking with you.
Just grant me one request.
I know you are kind,
and do not think I'm a pest.
I ask this in Jesus name;
the one without blemish or spot.
Would you help me be content
no matter what my lot?
