TITLE: Xiao-Xing: A Beautiful Rising Star | Previous Challenge Entry

Xiao lay on a table with a nearly empty bowl of grapes within her reach. There were scented candles flickering in the room. Brown hands rubbed Xiao’s shoulders and moved down her bare back towards a towel covering her midsection.
“So, my queen,” said Andrew, “Looking over your expanding kingdom?”
“Yes,” replied Xiao, confidently. “ Shanghai is growing. The local politicians are eager to make it the financial center of Asia once again. My aerospace consortium’s new office park will be in that center. My plans are progressing.”
“I love you my little tigress,” said Andrew as he kissed her on the cheek.
“Not many men would follow the woman in their life around the world,” said Xiao. “leaving family and friends behind.”
“I would follow you anywhere,” said Andrew as his hands moved up and down her body, relaxing her.
Xiao took great pleasure in the adoration of her younger husband. Having a younger, muscular brown skinned husband that she brought back from the US made Xiao an iconic mystery to many in China.
“So, how are your Mandarin lessons going?” asked Xiao.
“They’re going well,” said Andrew as he messaged her calves. “I’m glad the simplified character system was adopted back in the 1950’s; otherwise, it would take me years to learn Mandarin.”
A woman entered the office.
“Xiao, I’ve just gotten back from, oh, am I interrupting?” said Ling.
“No,” said Xiao. “Darling, give me a few minutes to talk with Ling.”
“I’ll get more grapes,” said Andrew, picking up the nearly empty bowl. He took the last grape and gently placed it into Xiao’s mouth.
As Andrew walked by Ling to leave the office, Ling looked up and then down his chocolate brown body. A sparkle caught her eye. It was a silver cross tangling from a chain around Andrew’s neck. Ling’s eyes then followed his muscular lower body as he walked out the door.
“You might want to pick your tongue up off the floor. Someone might step on it,” said Xiao as she adjusted the towel around herself.
“Xiao,” said Ling, turning around. “Tell me again, where did you find him?”
“He’s half black, half Puerto Rican,” said Xiao as she sat up on the massage table. “I met him in grad school at Cal Tech. I told you, you should have gone to grad school in the U.S., not Great Britain: much wider selection of muscular, young, mentally trainable exotic men in the US. It’s a law of numbers.” Xiao smiled a wide, cat like smile.
“I’m going to the U.S. to get a husband,” said Ling. Then, looking at Xiao’s chest, she saw a cross there. “Now I see why you took up Christianity as a religion.”
“He’s like a beacon leading me to God,” said Xiao, her eyes were soft, the warmth radiating like a light. “He loves me so completely, so unconditionally. It’s like he was made specifically for me. It’s like he’s sweet candy and I’m a hungry tigress addicted to his love.”
“Wow,” said Ling. “That’s not the same Xiao I grew up with. Men were going to be your play things, for physical gratification, nothing more. You were going to conquer the world.”
“I still am,” said Xiao. “Andrew makes it fulfilling. I have someone with whom to share my life, my work, my success. But we’ll talk more about Andrew and God later. What did the politicians say about my proposal for the office park?”
“They salivated over the tax revenue and jobs the park will create,” said Ling. “They approved unanimously.”
“Everything is progressing according to my plans,” said Xiao.
“And your marriage?” asked Ling.
“Andrew is more than just supportive. He’s enamored by my ambition,” said Xiao, her eyes glowing. She looked at one of the scented candles. “My marriage is thriving in love and even feeds my career. I feel this is exactly what God wants me to do at this time, in this place.”

I wasn't too sure where the story was going, but liked the writing well enough to continue through to the end where the conclusion was well-worth the read.
