Topic: Car Trip (07/18/05)
Dear Lord,

I don’t know if this is part of your scheme, but it seems to be. The annual family vacation always seems to be a way for you to get me to evaluate my life. You seem to plant questions in my head like, “Is the stress of the trip worth the destination?” I am about to intentionally put myself in a confined space with bored people ate up with the impatience of youth for hours on end. Am I doing what is best for my family? I know, I know, it has been a long day of getting ready and I am just tired. I have a tendency to lose sight of purpose. Especially when I have failed at trying to fit too much in one day. Boy, do I need you Lord. These road trips are a kind of microcosm for life. When I came to know you, you taught me that I have a fantastic destination in my future. I also learned that I have a lifelong journey before I get there. The real goal is to mature in your love enough to enjoy the journey. It is difficult to show love to impatient, excited children. I believe you use these family vacations to show us just a hint of what it is like for you to deal with us. I am very grateful that your love and grace is perfect and you don’t treat us like I have treated my family in the past. These trips also remind me that the very thing about my children that drives me crazy is the very thing I struggle with the most. Lord, forgive my impatience. Help me to see the choices I can make that will make our journey full of peace, love and joy. Not only for our journey tomorrow, but more importantly for the rest of the journey of this lifetime. Help me to be an example like you were when you took a trip to this world. Your journey was more difficult than anything I could possibly imagine. Yet, I know by your Word that your journey was full of joy and its purpose was your love for us. Help me to mature in love so that I can be a vessel overflowing with you.

A journal entry was an effective way to say what you wanted to say! I liked this line; "These road trips are a kind of microcosm for life."
