The weekend before Thanksgiving here is Norfolk, Virginia is the beginning of the Christmas season when they have their parade. The excitement of Christmas is in the air. Hints of Christmas in the stores of Christmas carols and the rush are on in the stores until after Christmas.
As for my family, we usually start getting excited the day after Thanksgiving when we rearrange our downstairs for setting up the Christmas tree. Music of Christmas is piped through the speakers throughout the house of Christmas music setting the mood of being jolly. When it comes to putting the lights on the tree, we have to have our tree well lit. That tradition started about twenty-one years ago when my oldest daughter protested by undecorating the tree to see the lights become brighter. Since Cyndy did that, we have gotten where we put a ton of lights to make our tree glow through all the ornaments and the tinsel. Usually our tree is the brightest in the neighborhood.
Once the tree is trimmed, we decorate the hearth with the Christmas village scene with snow mix with glitter and put several strings of white lights throughout the scene to well light up the village. On each side of the mantle, I place the hurricane lamps and they are lit at night. All our stockings are hung with care in a row on the mantle. Oh, the beauty of a fire in the fireplace makes the joy of Christmas come alive. As you walk in my house a hint of Christmas greenery is the candle are lit.
As the night comes about we all are ready to settle down to watch our Christmas programs of Charlie Brown, Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer, Frosty the Snowman. The children start bringing their Christmas wish list for Mom and Dad to please, please get for them. The wait for Christmas has begun. Oh, if we can snap our fingers and Christmas is here tomorrow won’t we all be glad if our gifts and all have been gotten and wrapped. Oh, Christmas please hurry and come!
