One of my fondest memories of Christmas is that age-old tradition of gathering with other gals to bake cookies. My mother always baked at Christmastime when I was little, so I suppose I was trying to re-capture that feeling. So, I invited a few others moms from the homeschool group over for a special baking day.. The kids that participated ranged in ages from 4-7, and the moms….well, who cares our ages? Anyway, five gals in the kitchen making cookies would have been fun enough, but we decided to dress like the 1950’s, donning full skirts, old fashioned aprons, red lipstick and 50’s rock and roll music. The kids played and periodically helped as we danced and shared favorite recipes from our own childhoods.

What I especially remember about that day was not the cookies, although I am sure that they were delicious, but the fun, and the memories that we made. Each of the moms reflected on character traits and memories of their own mother, of how she impacted their life. Some had memories of a cherished grandmother and her recipes, or some way that she impacted their lives.

When all is said and done, I pray that my children and my friends have fond memories of times that we have shared, lessons learned, and friendship treasured. That would be a recipe worth sharing!
