Will you pursue the more expensive road and take a dander at college or will you skip the college expenses and seek to begin a career? Whatever you choose, your future remains in the balance. Depending on the influence of parents, this choice is more automatic for some than others.
College means possible scholarships and dean’s list, as well as, debts for tuition, boarding, and books. However, the focal point is graduation day, and the search for what you ideally believe as the pick of the litter in jobs. The other choice leaves you debtless, but seeking a high paying job that provides for things like cars, insurance, food, phone, and shelter.
If you are one of those people who meet your spouse later in life, you may enter marriage with your school debt still intact and bonuses of extra costs from money spent on pets, skiing accidents, and flat tires.
No matter how huge your debt, some may be fortunate to ease it when a birthday gift is cash or you may be fortunate to win $10,000 at a marathon. On top of it all, your spouse more than likely bring his debt into the marriage as well.
With marriage, a desire to purchase a home lingers in front of the couple. This brings debt, as well as a mortgage payment. With a home, the requirement of home insurance and fire insurance empty out your monthly income, too.
As children enter the equation, the ambition to provide for your families needs pushes one to spend the cash for life and medical insurance. These necessities drain your spending and lower the amount of fun funds you have for things like vacations, luxury cars, and eating out.
The largest challenge of all comes from unexpected storms like tornados, hurricanes, and flooding. Sometimes difficulties pave their way into your life with medical needs due to illness and sometimes the loss of a loved one. As the children spread their own wings, life presents you with the cycle of tuition costs again.
So, is life left to chance and the spin of dial? The Bible reminds us that the Lord holds us in His hands, and He has a plan for everything. Whatever comes our way, we need to cling to the promise of Jeremiah 29:11, “I know the plans that I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope.” (NASB)
Our life is not left up to chance. The Lord has a purpose in everything that touches our lives. Do you trust your future and hope to the Lord who loves you?
