Clock is ticking. We have got to go. We’re going to be late. Move, move, move! Look at the time. Does everybody have everything? Bookbags? Shoes? Lunches? Load up the truck. Buckle up so we can leave. Did I hear three clicks?
This is my morning routine. Does not sound as if I have much patience and in reality, I so get stressed in the morning. The routine should be smooth as long as we have done it but… Most mornings we are rushing for the door, breakfast in hand to try and beat the buses before the pull into the neighborhood. Getting stuck behind a bus would impede our progress. Unfortunately I am all about routine and schedule but can never seem to get things together.
Seems we don’t; have time to truly slow down. Someone is always needing to go somewhere and thus the barking orders begin as it falls to me to get them there in a timely manner. Only I seem to be aware of the clock and how time is flashing by. Then they complain to me when they miss the first few minutes of practice, a meeting, choir, etc.
Patience is a trait I work towards. Some days I have more of it and can take things in stride. Other days, I am ready to blow a gasket. I know my stress level and blood pressure rises with the lack of patience and I am working on controlling my need for so much structure.
But for now I need to go so I can start my day of school as my students begin to file in and I finish collating quizzes for my classes. Time to jet. No more time for pondering.
