I am here to tell you that it’s a sham. Things are not as smooth as they appear to be. Time is not my friend. He’s stingy; never sharing with me as much as he should. My candle burns at both ends. Before long they will meet. I have plates- too many to count- spinning around me, I am rushing to keep them all from crashing around me. Am I controlling them or are they controlling me?
There are days, weeks even, that I feel so far behind, completely overwhelmed. My mask of confidence is just that. I hide behind a facade. What I really want to do is throw up my hands and just give up. Sit down and have a good cry. Scream at the top of my lungs. Let go of this Wonder Woman mentality. But that would mean coming out of hiding and admitting that I can’t do it all. Letting people see my flaws and weaknesses. I’m afraid of what would happen if I lose the mask. The big question is just what am I afraid of. Am I afraid to find out that things will fall apart if I step back? Or am I more afraid that they WON’T?
So I keep my mask firmly in place. I keep pushing myself forward. Look, I can do it all, I scream at the world. While inside I wish to curl up in a tiny ball and simply cry. Only God can help me overcome this, and I pray nightly that He guide me from behind my mask and allow me to live more peacefully rather than busily.
