Topic: The Family Home (05/29/08)
The “For Sale” sign so unceremoniously driven into my soil may as well have been a stake through my heart. They were the ones that built me. They said they need more room, but how could they just leave? The thought just makes my window shutter.

What about all those memories? I watched the children grow. I’ve sheltered them during the noise of thunder, the sting of rain, and the cold of snow. I’ve been their foundation during funerals and weddings. I’ve witnessed all the celebrations and felt every tear drop.

Will I hear no more singing? Will my kitchen bring forth no more delicious smelling food? My carpet is getting worn, but I’d give anything to have the kids running through the halls once again. I feel so empty and alone.

In alarm, I suddenly wake to feel a key in the lock. Who are these strangers? I know they sense my cold and emptiness, and yet they smile. They peek in every corner and declare that they want me. They need me. Dare I hope again?

Oh- what joy! I am once again filled. I was made for this! I am a church, and I was made to house God’s family. I don’t want to be locked and silent! So many new faces—but wait! I see many old and familiar faces also coming to witness my rebirth! They say they have a new home now. I will miss them terribly, but I look forward to meeting these new family members. OUCH! The kids are running down the stairs. That feels so good!

This is precious! "windows shutter" LOL
Great title caught my eye and I loved this delightful tribute to a 'family home' that turns out to be a church. What a pleasant surprise.

Haha. I liked this little entry. It was short but sweet. It was fun listening to the voice of a church building. Good job with this one.

Delightful! At first I actually thought it was a "House" speaking, until I read that it was a Church. I liked the memories, the joys, and especially the briefness. A really creative and enjoyable read...down to the last "Ouch". (*.*)! Nicely done.

I loved reading this short, but compelling story. It was so interesting to find it was a church.
Great writing, and I loved the way it was told in the voice of the house/church.
This is top-notch writing in my book. Keep at it.
