A brother, Mama’s pride and joy.
Three sisters, then a brother came
And life would never be the same.
A long time passed, four years between
She and this boy, what would it mean?
The little girl took him in stride
Without much feeling deep inside.
Her sisters, friends with whom she played
No time for brother, she’s afraid.
This baby boy began to grow
But him she did not long to know.
The years went by, so swiftly passed
This little boy was growing fast.
From tiny tot to busy teen
Now more her equal, it would seem.
Okay, perhaps it’s time to see
This boy, her brother, who is he?
And suddenly, she saw him there
A fine young teen, blue-eyed and fair.
But deep within there did abide
A peace and joy he could not hide.
To draw much closer she did yearn
That she could without doubt discern.
What was it she could clearly see
Inside of him, what could it be?
She longed to draw much closer still
Something in her his presence filled.
Then one day he became a man
Fulfilling just what God had planned.
Called to His service, preacher boy
That hope within was God’s pure joy.
Now in mid-life she does smile and say
What she never realized on his birthday.
And that is the love that runs so deep
Between them, such sweet love to keep.
Connected by the Spirit’s power
Their sibling love grows by the hour.
From now through eternity this love will not end
Between she and her brother, who is now her best friend!

The meter falters a bit near the end, but this poem has a nice rhythm and good, consistent thyme scheme.
