Mom was young but years do not gauge the ability to love, to teach, or to raise a healthy individual. My mom and dad had broken up before she realized she was pregnant. My dad did the “right” thing and married her. They vowed they would divorce in a year. It was important to them to give me a last name. It’s been 43 years, they are still married. Through the years they have given me much more than a last name!
My mom learned by trial and error how to be a mom. She learned a lot in the first few years, like if you don’t fasten the strap between the babies legs she will slip out of the stroller and roll down the apartment stairs as you bounce the stroller down the steps. She learned that after dad ArmorAlled the seats of his Chevelle a little girl could have fun sliding back and forth when dad punched it on the turns (this was, of course, before seatbelt laws). She learned that gum is really hard to get out of pigtails, that skinned knees really do require a kiss, that you don't talk about private things at home in front of a gabby kid, that little girls aren’t really made of sugar and spice, and much more.
I was allowed to play, get dirty, make mistakes and was always welcomed on my mom's knee.
She wasn't real strict, but when she disapproved I felt ashamed to have disappointed her.
She taught me about Jesus. She taught me to love and believe the best of people. She taught me to forgive. She taught me to try and try again. She taught me to believe I was special, and made unique by a loving creator.
Through the years mom has been my friend, my mentor, my confidant, my biggest fan, and my example of a godly wife and mother. I am not sure how an 18 year old kid grew to be such an amazing mom. I just know that she did! An oops? I think not,...God had a plan.

For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb.
