They weren’t interested in anything He had to say
Put Him to death, the crowd began to shout
Why didn’t Jesus take the easy way out
Jesus felt on His back the crack of a whip
His whole body trembled from head to hip
Yet He remained silent, as He stumbled about
Why didn’t Jesus take the easy way out
He carried His cross, I walked along too
There just had to be something that I could do
I’ll help Him carry the cross, His back must be sore
I don’t think He’ll be able to take much more
My Lord, I believe that You are who you say
But surely there must be another way
You don’t have to die or take this abuse
You’re the Son of God, you need no excuse
You have the power to come down from the cross
If people don’t accept You, it will be their loss
Listen to this crowd, they’re laughing at You
They’ve mocked everything that You came to do
I asked My Father to let this cup pass from Me
But He said Son, that just cannot be
Forgive them Father, they know not what they do
But I love them the same, I’ll die for them too
After that, I never looked at Easter the same way
How He suffered and died for our sins that day
But I’ll meet Him in heaven, I have no doubt
Because Jesus didn’t take the easy way out
