It is also fabled that a person could be chosen by lot, or the first of the other sex seen that day was assigned in a mock betrothal for a year!
February 14th is also a time where many folk get excited as they choose romantic cards to send anonymously to one another. A bouquet of flowers may be another way of showing romantic tendencies to someone who has been admired for some time!
Much of this lasts but for a season, and the romance and 'love' wears off and the heart-breaking situation of a love lost, captures the soul.
These are all linked to legends which have no 'real' truth in them, yet there is one 'love' that is real and full of truth.
This love is an everlasting love that comes from Father God, Our Creator, and reaches down to each and everyone, whether recognised or not, and He never stops loving!
'For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him. John 3:16 (NIV)
There is 'no fixed day' when God shows His love to us, un-like the celebration of Valentine's day. His love is there all the time, even when we cannot see it, feel it, or even take the time to understand it. He shows His love for us from Genesis to Revelation, and the greatest love He showed to the world was through Jesus at Calvary. He loves ..all the time; and when we come to Him, give our lives to Him; that is the day when we realise, feel and undestand His love for us.
It clearly states in His Word that God chose us, and un-like the Valentine's mock betrothal for a year, we become part of the body of Christ - His bride - which one day He will return to take home to Himself forever, spotless and without blemish!
Have you found true love yet, or are you flitting from one 'love' to another, or even failing to find love at all? Maybe you are a Christian already, but you have lost your first love, just like the church in Ephesus did as written about in the book of Revelation chapter 1.
God calls you to experience true love today. Come to the One who loves you more than anyone else could ever love you.
'This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down His life for us.'1 John 3:16 (NIV)
God's promises are never broken, for 'The Lord is faithful to all His promises, and loving towards all He has made.'Psalm 145:13. (NIV)
And that includes YOU!
