Topic: Evangelism (11/01/07)
As I was finishing up breakfast one Sunday morning with my husband and 2 yr. old child, I heard what I thought was singing coming from outside my house. I went to look and yes, it was singing! My next door neighbors were devout church-going people. They attended church every time the doors were open for a service. I always heard them before I saw them. They left their house with their four children, and all of them sang as they walked to church which was only a couple blocks away. Not only that, it happened every Sunday.

Their Sunday morning practice became music to my ears. I envied anyone appearing to be so happy. I was happy, but they seemed to have something I didn’t. I attended church off and on, but watching and listening to them each Sunday morning instilled a desire inside my heart to seek that kind of happiness.

Eventually, my husband and I attended a class at a church about the joys and responsibilities of church membership. On the next Palm Sunday, we joined the church. The following week someone invited us to join the choir. We did and became singers of religious songs, too.

Moses and the Israelites sang this song: Exodus 15:2 “The Lord is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation. He is my God, and I will praise him …”

My children are grown now and I continue to work hard in my church. I have found such happiness deep down inside my soul from being with other Christians. They have been there for me in times of trouble and distress as well as the good times when I feel like singing. I am forever grateful to a family who wasn’t afraid to express their love of God as they walked down the street.

It seems to me that we say a lot by our actions. There are numerous opportunities on any given day to show someone the way to our loving heavenly father. Someone aptly put it this way, “Religion is more caught than taught.”

The story of the singing family is quite charming.

This piece is well-written, but maybe just a bit weak on the topic of evangelism.

I'd love to read the singing family bit written as a story, with dialogue between you and your husband, for example. It's so sweet!

Nice images, I was with you, listening to thier joy. I think there is more to be said about this story, keep at it.

Great story! I disagree with the first comment, it was not weak at all about the subject, what better to share the gospel than to live it? Keep writing and keep up the good work!!

Yes, singing is a sign of inner joy. When the heart is not in tune with God, it loses its song.
