Topic: Anniversary (04/11/05)
The hospital food tasted like tears; salty and soggy. I sat in my room, depressed and frightened. How had I ended up in the psychiatric ward of the area's hospital? I was embarrassed at my failure and felt so alone, unworthy of others'love. I'd had a breakdown, twisting my mind into knots, sometimes tearing it into pieces, a jigsaw mind and a shattering of my soul. I was lost.
Then there was a knock on my door. A young woman with a smile playing on her lips announced herself, saying she was a member of my church who wanted to visit.
What? Some prim and proper lady, (well-adjusted no doubt) wanted to visit frumpy me? I was leery, but desperate. We talked.
I watched her as we spoke. She seemed not afraid of me or ashamed of talking with a mental patient. I relaxed. We talked about God, how he had impressed upon her the need to visit me, someone she didn't know before, to have a Bible study together. It hit me like a blow to my forehead. God loves me! He sent me a new friend, one for which I had been praying for years. Suddenly there was hope.
My friend and I had our twenty-one years anniversary a few months ago and I will always remember God's special blessing to me through my friend. She is evidence to me that God will answer prayers. She helped me relate better to God and to others better. And she's not so well-adjusted all the time, herself, either.

What a great testimony to God's hand at work! Your first paragraph is great and it effectively and concisely put me in the scene. The last line made me chuckle. Very nice job.

Great job of it. My favorite line: What? A lady "prim and proper (and well adjusted no doubt) wants to visit me?" You don't have to be admitted to a psych ward to feel that way, I know I have plenty of times.

Isn't God great! You brought to light beautifully the way He blessed you with that 'prim and proper' friend. The tone of your article was not too heavy and not too light - just right. Well done.
